Vitra Chairs

Vitra is a Swiss family-owned furniture manufacturer, founded in 1934 by Willi and Erika Fehlbaum and based in Birsfelden. Vitra is recognised as a manufacturer of premium furniture and home accessories.

Vitra began to produce furniture with a license from the American Herman Miller Company, which allowed them to produce their designs in Europe. The Herman Miller collection included many designs by the renowned design duo Charles and Ray Eames, an American married couple who made significant contributions to modern design and furniture.

The most famous is their iconic Vitra Eames lounge chair and ottoman which comes in a range of rich wood and leather finishes. The white Vitra Eames lounge chair and ottoman -  Snow was designed in 2008 and in 2011 the original classic dimensions of the chair were repurposed in a larger size to suit our taller generation.

The shape of the Vitra chair reflects an American baseball glove, with the curves allowing you to recline in true luxury as you put your feet on the matching ottoman with sumptuous leather upholstery.

Every last tiny detail has been thought of in this chair’s design and every one of the 160 individual parts has been placed for optimum function and maximum benefit. You can watch this iconic Vitra chair being made today using Charles and Ray Eames’ precise configuration.

Another famous Vitra chair is the revolutionary Vitra Panton chair. Danish designer Verner Panton worked for years moulding this chair out of a single piece of plastic. The finished chair was finally manufactured by Vitra in 1967 and looks stunning against a Vitra dining table. The Panton Chair was born from cooperation between Vitra and Panton and they continued to work together until his death in 1998.
