String Magazine Shelves

The String modular shelving system was designed by Swedish architect Nils ‘Nisse’ Strinning (1917- 2006). String quickly became a Scandinavian design icon, expanding the range of String furniture.

The String shelving concept was originally designed for an entry into a competition to make the ideal bookcase for every home in Sweden.

Nils Strinning’s entry was innovative and radical by the standard of its time. The concept was brilliant - wooden shelves were simply inserted into iron mounts without the need for any tools. The idea that you could put up shelves like this, flat-packed, light to carry and flexible to changing needs - was groundbreaking.

Today the original String design is still hugely popular and String furniture is still made in Sweden - remaining true to its roots. Due to the brilliance of Strinning’s original design, the String shelf feels as contemporary and relevant as ever.

String shelving is loved by designers over the globe who admire the practicality and good looks.

The String system is constantly being added to, enhanced and expanded. There are now cabinets, desks, hooks and many different colours and materials to choose from.

The String magazine shelf is highly stylish wire magazine rack available in white, black or grey, offering a useful place to display your favourite magazines, newspapers or luxurious coffee table style books. This instantly transform a room into a chic place to relax.

The String magazine shelf also available in wood with the String wood magazine shelf offering a very different look for a warmer style.
