String Desk

he String modular shelving system was designed by Swedish architect Nils ‘Nisse’ Strinning (1917- 2006). String designs soon became iconic Scandinavian design, with the company expanding the range of String furniture.

The String shelving concept was originally designed for an entry into a competition to make the ideal bookcase for every home in Sweden. Nils Strinning’s entry was ingenious - simply two iron wire mounts with the wooden shelves simply inserted at a height of choice. The idea that you could put up shelves like this, flat-packed, light to carry and flexible to changing needs - was groundbreaking.

Today the original String shelving design is still hugely popular and String furniture is still made in Sweden - remaining true to its roots and benefiting from the meticulous Scandinavian craftsmanship.

The String work desk is part of the String system where you can build your own composition using an array of different components in different materials, finishes and colours.

Components include cabinets with sliding doors, a display cabinet with sliding glass doors and a chest of two drawers with stainless steel handles.

The String desk allows you to insert a useful desk area into a small area. This desk is ideal for a children’s room as it can be inserted at different heights so the level of the desk can be raised as the child grows and to fit different sized seating.

The String desk will also fit in a study, living area, bedroom, utility area or even in a hallway or landing. There is a wide range of finishes so that the String desk can either blend in or stand out.
