String Cabinets

The String modular shelving system was designed by Swedish architect Nils ‘Nisse’ Strinning (1917 - 2006). The String brand quickly became iconic in Scandinavian design, with the range of String furniture rapidly expanding.

The String story began when String shelving was designed for an entry into a competition that was being jointly held by Swedish manufacturer Bonnier and the Swedish national library. The competition was to design a bookcase that would fit in every home in Sweden. Nils Strinning’s entry was a clever answer to this problem - wooden shelves were simply inserted at the height of choice in two iron mounts - thereby fitting in any home for any purpose.

The String shelving system could also be flat-packed and was light to carry from the shop to the home.

Today String furniture is still manufactured in Sweden - remaining true to the high quality Scandinavian craftsmanship.

The String modular system continues to offer solutions for contemporary living. The minimalist design that String furniture is so famous for is timeless and has made it a design classic across the globe.

The String shelving concept remains the same, but there are now many more additions and the range continues to expand. Components include the String sliding door cabinet, a display cabinet with sliding glass doors and a chest of two drawers with stainless steel handles.

The string collection continues to grow and develop with new colours and materials such as Plexiglas.

The stylish String System cabinet/sliding doors comes in a variety of different colours and finishes. These String cabinets will look smart in any contemporary setting and will hide away any unsightly clutter from open-plan living areas. The String sliding doors allow for easy access and offer clean lines without the distraction of protruding handles.
