Gubi Seating

Gubi and Lisbeth Olsen founded the Gubi brand in Copenhagen in 1967. They had the insight to combine the aesthetics of past design icons with the talent of new designers.

This instinct for collaborative harmony and intuition for designs from the past that will work today continues with the present-day leadership of the brand by the current CEO Jacob, the son of Gubi and Lisbeth.

Gubi is a leader in design innovation. In 2003 the award-winning Gubi 3D chair was the first chair design to be moulded out of 3D veneer. The use of trailblazing technology allowed the thickness of the veneer to be reduced to half the normal size, creating a lightness and elegance using this material that had not seen before. The Gubi 3D chair went on to be selected as a permanent exhibition piece at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Designed by GamFratesi for Gubi, the Gubi Beetle chair defines the synergy Gubi are famous for. Released in 2013, this Gubi chair has already become a design icon. The design for Gubi’s Beetle chair is inspired by the aesthetic and anatomy of the beetle with the hard exterior and soft interior - comfortably, richly and luxuriously upholstered with pin thin legs.

Another design classic from the brand is the Gubi Bonaparte armchair, designed in 1990 and inspired by Napoleon Bonaparte, French cinema and the curves of a grand piano. This visual inspiration combined with the Danish traditions for craft and furniture production have created another classic. This Gubi chair will fit in both modern and period interiors alike.
