Cappellini

Capellini is an Italian design company which was founded in 1946 in Arosio by Enrico Cappellini. The company started as a furniture maker specialising in wooden pieces, but with Enrico’s love of art and design it grew to become the eclectic brand it is today.

Cappellini is a brand that has always been synonymous with unique pieces of the highest quality, which give the Cappellini furniture owner a sequential feeling of exclusivity.

It was in the 1960s that Capellini really took the design world by storm and many of its iconic pieces were conceived. Famous furniture items such as the Cappellini S-chair, the Cappellini Proust chair and the Cappellini Thinking Man’s chair were designed in the 1960s and have appeared on screen in films and music videos and also in museums.

Cappellini deliberately looked outside Italy for new design talent, becoming a global brand. Cappellini have the ability to spot new unknown designers and know that they will be a great success. They have discovered many new young designers, providing them with the incredible opportunity to launch their career, with Jasper Morrison, Tom Dixon and the Bouroullec brothers amongst many others.

Cappellini are also known for their successful experimentation and they continue to use designers from all backgrounds and with different styles and temperaments. This means that there is no set Cappellini style, but at the same time all the pieces form a unified collection. Cappellini make beautiful objects, which are also useful and this is a result of huge amounts of research and investment.

Cappellini pieces are full of verve and fervour are highly desirable and can be purchased as collector’s items, or used in offices, hospitality or for everyday use in the home.

In 2004 the Cappellini brand was bought by the prestigious design group Poltrona Frau.
