Active internationally, Vitra work together with the major designers of the day. For over 50 years Vitra have been manufacturing the furniture created by the famous US designers, Charles and Ray Eames.
Vitra are convinced that rooms and interior design have a decisive influence on people's motivation, performance and health. So Vitra have made it their mission to develop furniture and furnishing systems that stimulate, inspire and motivate, while also offering the body comfort, safety and support. In order to attain this goal, Vitra work with renowned designers and a specialized Vitra team. Vitra experiment with new ideas, and are continuously tackling the new challenges of the world of work.
Vitra are synonymous with a number of the 20th and 21st century designs.
Charles and Ray Eames designed numerous classic icon pieces of furniture.
The most famous of these is the Vitra Eames lounge chair and ottoman. The designers initial sketches and drawings are in the Vitra museum of furniture. Charles and Ray Eames initially designed the Vitra lounge chair and Ottoman as a modern interpretation of the traditional English club armchair. Featuring black leather cushions and dark palisander veneer and black painted aluminum, this classic version of the lounge chair went on to become an icon of contemporary style and comfort. Now in collaboration with the Eames Office and Hella Jongerius, Vitra have launched a lighter, brighter reinterpretation of the 20th centaury classic.
Besides the Eames chairs and tables Vitra also manufacture the Eames Hang it all, and as limited editions Vitra have produced the Eames house bird and Plywood Elephant.
The seating ranges manufactured by Vitra include the ever popular aluminum group of office and board room chairs.
Vitra Panton chair designed by Verner Panton in 1959/60 is a classic in furniture history. Here Panton offers a brand new interpretation of the cantilever chair. Vitra have recently added a junior version in a range of exciting colours.
In the Vitra product portfolio is the classic George Nelson range of Clocks. The Vitra Ball clock was designed by George Nelson in 1948. The Vitra Sunburst followed in 1949 and during the 1950’s the Vitra Sunflower, Vitra Eye and Vitra Spindle clocks were added to the range. George Nelson’s Coconut chair is manufactured by Vitra and is one of the many miniatures available from the Vitra design museum.
The coffee table designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1944 remains a popular Vitra product. Many “knock offs” have been tried but failed to equal the quality of the Vitra table and thickness of the glass makes the original unmatchable. Vitra engrave the designers signature on the top of the glass top to certify it is an authentic Vitra product.
An exciting new Vitra range is the Wooden dolls by Alexander Girard. Originally designed in 1963 Vitra has reintroduced the dolls which distinguish and mark Vitra as being great visionaries when it comes to design.
